[RC] Where is the Money ... - goearth

Hello,  Where is the Money in Endurance Horses would be the question, since its not in Breeding and selling youngsters, most of the time.  Fact...Endurance prospects sell for 2-4K$ to break even at 3-5 years old, but there are fire sales all the time and there are those that sell by the pound.  Where is the Money?  In the training to get a horse to the 50-100 mile level and still remain sound.  Fact...There are many causalities along the way.  The record of one of mine was from time of sale to gelding, training and bowing a tendon was 30 days.  Lots of causalities and some people i will not sell to anymore.  Fact...I sold a young 4 yo gelding,  Mandela (Menes/Mombasa) for 3K$ and thought i did ok since thats about what they go for.  The horse did its first hundred, the OD and finished 6th and sold on the spot for 50K$.  The person who took the horse to the 100 mile level made the money...not the breeder.  There has been No Record of the horse ever doing anything again.  Where is he?  somewhere in the sandbox.  The money is in the Training and as i said...."There are many causalities"  that never show up in the Horse Welfare Committee Reports.  tom sites
