I'm thinking that "bad" behavior that is occurring
because your horse is
temporarily confined might be treated different than
if the same sort of
actions were happening during normal times, when
your horse is always
turned out.

Right again. My very docile horse Zab, who is my
lesson horse and is very kind and gentle, was BONKERS
last winter when he sprained a ligament and had to be
confined to the round pen for 2 months. You should see
my round pen. It's all mashed on top from him hurling
his body at it! He really wanted out, but we didn't
want an injury to become a full blown tear. It was
tough on both of us, but he made it and so did I. And
now he is back to his sweet natured self.

I gave him some stall toys which helped a bit, and
took him off almost all grain and just kept plenty of
hay before him to keep him occupied. and I took him
out twice a day for handwalking.
