[RC] Medicating/preventing scald - Susan Jones

Another alternative to using Desitin or Vaseline for skin areas that get
irritated is Bag Balm. When my horse had a seeping wound, the skin below
was turning raw from the fluid. Our vet suggested the Bag Balm and it
worked great. I just cleaned the area below the wound with a damp wash
cloth and rubbed the Bag Balm into the skin and hair below, but not on, the
wounded area. The skin condition improved.

We kept that routine up until the seepage stopped.

Nice thing about Bag Balm is that it isn't as stinky as Desitin and it feels
good on your hands. I use it in winter when the hands get rough and dry.
