Re: [RC] first time rides, WS accident, and invocations - MARY VISCO

It was my understanding that the horse was out of control even before they
got to that part of the trail. I heard that the guy behind her was never
closer than a horse length behind and that the problem was that the girl was
trying to hold her horse back from a horse about 30 feet ahead of her and
that the guy behind her even told her that if she let her horse get closer
to the one in front that she could get him to settle down and it would be
safer for her but she didn't listen. It was a tragic accident but people
that were back behind this problem may think they knew what was going on but
may be way off base.

As for invocations-I think a blessing or a prayer is
appropriate whether ride management just says "be careful out there" or
prays for the safety for all of us! Who is this going to hurt?? Think
of all of the good it will do for all of us. Something like a little
invocation will make a rider more careful that day or if anyone gets in
some kind of trouble with their horse those who come upon that rider
will be a little bit more compassionate. Whatever the case may be.. my
point is that it makes us all a little more mindful and careful too with
our horses and each other for that matter.

Reminds me of that old adage--"It can't hurt and it might help..."

I've said that about a lot of supportive things that clients have wanted
to do for ailing horses--and I think it applies to invocations, too.
