Re: [RC] Training Log - jan mutchler

I obsess with my training log, too. It helps to be a type A,
obsessive-compulsive when keeping a training log. I have a zippered binder
that is divided into sections. The first section are the calendars - two pages
per month so the blocks are big enough for detailed notes about length of
trail, degree of difficulty of trail, temperature, heartrates, etc. and I total
my weekly mileages. Then I have a "farrier" section for notes, a
"vaccinations" section, "worming" section, "dental" section, and "misc vet"
section. I also have a section where I keep all my membership cards, plastic
pages to put copy of reg certificates and coggins and vet certs in. Then, when
I go to a ride, I just toss the binder into the truck and I have all my stuff
with me. I LOVE details. :>)

Steph made up
(hint hint).....when she was producing them

But the last several years I just buy a yearly calendar book from Dollar
Tree (appt. book), that
has a small lined paragraph for each day.....at top I put which horses
ridden, how far, time spend,
and whatever notes. I total each week Sunday night at bottom of page
(horse, # of rides, miles),
to a total end of month.....and yearly total. I look back, and if I have
done too many miles one week
on a younger horse, I back off for the next week.

This is essential I feel...to be able to look back and see how many rides
that month....so I can keep
consistency, etc.not under do or over do it. I also like to compare it to
other horses at the same age,
same month the previous year, etc.

I also find a page for shoeing, vet, and my hay buying, plus injuries.

It's not that pretty, but sure works well!!! It's my nightly ritual right
before bed to update the log.

I find my friends who don't do this...often are surprised how little, or how
much they actually ride their horses.

Karen, off to ride Coyote this morning on ride # 81 for the year (4 year
old horse, many, many slow, calm
rides this year; LSD)

How many of you keep a training log? Also if so what do you keep track of?
Would someone be willing to share a logbook they drew up for themselves. I
want to keep a training log but have given up trying with MS word and Excel!
I just don't know where to start.
