Re: [RC] Training Log - Karen Sullivan

I am obsessed with my training log! I used to buy those wonderful ones
Steph made up
(hint hint).....when she was producing them

But the last several years I just buy a yearly calendar book from Dollar
Tree (appt. book), that
has a small lined paragraph for each day.....at top I put which horses
ridden, how far, time spend,
and whatever notes. I total each week Sunday night at bottom of page
(horse, # of rides, miles),
to a total end of month.....and yearly total. I look back, and if I have
done too many miles one week
on a younger horse, I back off for the next week.

This is essential I feel...to be able to look back and see how many rides
that month....so I can keep
consistency, etc.not under do or over do it. I also like to compare it to
other horses at the same age,
same month the previous year, etc.

I also find a page for shoeing, vet, and my hay buying, plus injuries.

It's not that pretty, but sure works well!!! It's my nightly ritual right
before bed to update the log.

I find my friends who don't do this...often are surprised how little, or how
much they actually ride their horses.

Karen, off to ride Coyote this morning on ride # 81 for the year (4 year
old horse, many, many slow, calm
rides this year; LSD)

How many of you keep a training log? Also if so what do you keep track of?
Would someone be willing to share a logbook they drew up for themselves. I
want to keep a training log but have given up trying with MS word and Excel!
I just don't know where to start.
