Paul,
Marv has sound advice in renting until you figure out what
your needs are. 
I have a Kubota 6100D with backhoe and loader that I use all the time. I made a 
set of forks out of old cutting edges that I use alot too. It is handy and I 
can fit it though a 4' gate which also makes it attractive to my neighbors. 
Probably too small for
you needs.
If you use different attachments check for ease of changing.
I know of Michelle tractor and it is nice, you might want to pay her a visit.
Kubota, John Deere and New holland are quality products. Yanmar,
which is an inexpensive tractor has problem with service and parts.
