[RC] re: Loco Weed - Michelle Fink

Hi Marlene!

I am trying an organic approach to weed control on our pasture... So I'm
mowing the really weedy areas before perennials go to seed, spot spraying
with 20% acetic acid (strong 'vinegar' - cooking vinegar is 5% acetic acid)
or using a weed burner to toast the weeds.

The organic ag specialist at the extension office said that most perennials
will use up their reserves to keep sending up new shoots, so it may take
multiple treatments to kill 'em. In the case of bind weed, it can take up
to 3 years to get reserves depleted from the root systems...
Plowing/disking only divides the roots and makes more little plants (that
explains the bind weed carpet in my arena!).

Good luck with the weeds!

Happy Trails,

Michelle
