Re: [RC] overheating/sponging on fly - Tina Hicks

Angie left out a couple of steps in her instructions. In between this:

As your horse passes your sponge lying in the mudhole let the forward
momentum of your horse swing that sponge out behind you. *do not try to
bring it up yet*

and this:

Now swing that sponge back forward like a pendulum and at the height of
the arc pop your wrist and with practice it will come flying back to your
hand like a yo-yo.

should be some interim steps like:

-misjudge swing and fully loaded, wet sponge lands on your body somewhere (leg to mid back depending on speed, weight, and how bad your aim is). This usually only happens when you've dunked in a really muddy puddle :)

- sponge comes out of/off of/untied from it's leash so you look like you're walking one of those invisible leashes. additionally, the sudden change in weight on your leash makes for some interesting trajectories.

-the above happens in a really deep, nasty puddle which makes you think twice about retrieving it. But, of course, you do because who would do a SE ride w/out their trusty sponge???

I'm sure there are more - those are just the ones that have happened to me :)

Tina - who can sponge on the fly but nothing like Angie can :)
