Re: [RC] re: bitting, shallow mouth - heidi

I can ride her with a halter in an enclosed area but she is rather
opinionated on the trail and I need a bit in her mouth. Tried a bosal
and it was just a little better than a halter, tried a mechanical
hackemore and she doesn't do well in it either. Because of her shallow
mouth she gets any bit with shanks under her tongue, unless it has lots
of tongue relief. Thanks for any suggestions. Her teeth are OK.

If a French link snaffle doesn't do the trick, the next thing I'd try
would be a Kimberwicke, as some others have suggested, since she is having
issues with the shanks. (And Chris is right about the direct rein issue!)

Of course things aren't perfect, perfect doesn't exist on this earth.
Doesn't mean we won't go on trying to get better at what we do. Besides, if
everything was perfect today, what would you do tomorrow? Slamming each
other doesn't get anything done.
