Re: [RC] Letters to the World -- showing - Ed & Wendy Hauser

"...In this area of the USA the terrain is so rugged and so dry that almost
all
the ranchers want to have some Arabian blood in their ranch horses. They
don't want to ride purebred Arabians because they're too light to rope and
drag a big steer or bull, but they sure do appreciate not having to come in
at lunchtime to change horses i..."

I submit, that while that is the reality, and that some famous stars ride
Arabians, we are talking about perception here. I'll bet that if you asked
the average person about the breed of horse ridden by the cowboy stars of
the past, most would answer the Quarter horse. That is the perception,
the reality is that many of the horses were grade horses, some were gaited,
and others were just about any breed you can think of. By the way, does
anyone know the breed of that enormous gray ridden by Jim Arness in
Gunsmoke?

When trying to sell something, you have to deal with and change perception,
not reality.
