This is true.  You also need to realize that the horse anatomy is very similar to ours.  It takes six weeks for the liver to filter and void a foreign matter absorbed into the body. This is why you should always be careful when you put gas into your car or handle any kind of petroleum products.  Same goes for horses.  Their livers haven't had the time to build up a tolerance as a human has.  For the most part they have only had to filter natural things such as water, grass, and grain.  Whereas, look what humans put into their bodies.
