Here in South Africa, 99% of trailers (we call them boxes) are 2H straight load 
bumper pull with a slant ramp.  I generally travel alone as well and have never 
had a problem with my box.  I would imagine that you need to check out the 
center of gravity to get an idea of road holding.  Also, I've trained my horses 
to load themselves, thereby cutting out the amount of walking I have to do - 
horse will load, I close the bars and ramp, close up the front door and off we 
go!
