Re: [RC] tums - Kristen A Fisher

It was not clear from her post for whom she meant it.

I had only heard of using sodium bicarb [to reduce lactic acid build-up in muscles] in reference to horses. I also think I read that it is not effective, which would probably hold true for either horse or rider.

I had the impression the writer was referring to the RIDER taking Tums, not the horse.  ??????

I have heard that race horses are sometimes "milkshaked" - eg given a froth of sodium bicarb - before a race in hopes of that being true. However it is illegal in racing now, and I think I read it was never all that effective anyway, but I'm not certain.

Have any of you on RC heard of this re Tums?

?tums is also a source of sodium bicarbonate which slows down the accumulation of lactic acid in your muscles.........letting you ride harder and longer woo hoo.?
