[RC] Oldest horse to do 1st 100 - mkrumlawShannon Loomis, DVM rode her Morgan gelding "Quail Meadow Star" in both her and his first 100 at the age of 21. I spent three months talking her into riding a 100, promised I would ride with her, and then my horse ended up lame and I couldn't go. We still laugh about it. She then went on to ride him (and complete) all five days of the Shore to Shore at the age of 22. For seasoned horses finishing a 100 mile ride, I would take a guess and say that Jim Rogan's WJ Beezar finished the 2002 National Champhionship 100 mile ride at the age of 24ish. It was a very difficult ride on a good day, and if memory serves me correctly, mother nature didn't help. But then you remember all those moments when you pop up over a hill and are suddenly surrounded by the most stunning views. It's just you and your horse and for a moment time stops and you can hear the angels sing.
