RE: [RC] [RC] wet foods, whiskey for truman, beer for my horses! - Laurie Durgin

Ok, simple , all beetpulp to finicky horses at first has to have a 'taste". Probably eat if if you put a Cappicino in it too.:) But what you have to do is slowly decrease the beer, till they have none. You put in 80% next time, then you drink 20% , then they get 70% next week, you get 30. Then they get 60% , you get 40% , get the drift. . . ??
Yu could invite Howard to the barn to help with this ;)
Mine would only eat it with 'grain' flavoring or oil. I gradually decreased the flavoring(tubbys didn't need it) till they all love it now. Only the baby would eat it without flavoring at first.
Grated carrots work too or applesauce.

well, in order to get one of my horses to eat beet pulp, i poured a can of beer in it. he loved it! so now i feed it to him like that. question is, can i do this at an endurance ride? or is beer a banned substance for the horse at a ride? and i know what some of you are thinking, why waste beer like that, right? thats what the jack daniels if for, the horse can have the cheap stuff. cowboy ed
