RE: [RC] Sight hounds - Karen WilliamsI've had Pharaoh Hounds for years. Its too urban where I live to allow them out of the yard, but my first Pharaoh, Flame, used to go with me to the farm where I boarded my horses along with my Great Dane and Doberman. She and the Dane followed my horse everywhere. The Doberman followed for awhile, but usually vanished somewhere along the trail. She'd be waiting for us back at the barn. Pharaohs are wonderful dogs -- very intelligent, sweet and energetic. My remaining one is now 14 years old and getting pretty feeble. I'd like to get another one day................. I always wanted a saluki. They are just SO beautiful and run like the wind. At the trials, they were inclined to just keep on running though, often needing to be tackled by their owners in order to get them back on lead. The borzoi and greyhound were both field champions, great farm dogs, great couch dogs. Both had been to obedience class, where they were not stars, but learned the basics and came in when called. Sadly, the greyhound suffered a spinal injury when she was kicked by a 30 year old pony and had to be put down. I wonder about a pharaoh hound, short-haired, very beautiful, maybe a little more hardy than the greyhound and no long coat to deal with like the borzoi.
