I have found it useful to check tenting on my horses from the saddle, during
rides (both training and competing).  It enables me to get an informal,
mental picture of what is "usual" for a particular horse.  Comparing a horse
with itself is much more useful than just walking up to a horse at random.

It is just one more clue to how your horse is doing at a particular time.
