Re: [RC] Horse mauled in park by mountain lion - Patricia Griffin

There was another attack on Saturday night in Page Mill Pastures. There are
about 250 acres and 80 geldings in that pasture. The lion picked on one of
the older horses and apparently the horse was mauled very badly and the
prognosis is not very good. It is the third attack in about seven days
within a couple miles of each other. I have a gelding in that pasture and am
tempted to move him, but I wonder if I'm being overly protective...

This is not quite making sense as the Stanford Dish Trail, and area is
heavily fenced and guarded and not open to horse back riders, or pastured
horses that I know of.....will check with a friend that boards at Stanford
Stables to check in details.
At one time Stanford had closed this area to the public and had armed guards
at all the gate openings.....

John, can you enlighten us?

FYI for those of you who use the trails by Stanford Univesity. Channel 13
news just reported a horse mauling by the Alpine Trail or "Dish Trail". I'm
not sure of the condition of the horse, but officials are asking the public
not go out alone on this trail. Be careful:)

We are talking about all the tools we can use to keep our horses safe and
alive at the rides. Training/conditioning is one of the best tools
available. It makes us better horseman and women, it benefits our horses
and could quite possibly be the key to preventing most crashes.

Of course things aren't perfect, perfect doesn't exist on this earth.
Doesn't mean we won't go on trying to get better at what we do. Besides, if
everything was perfect today, what would you do tomorrow? Slamming each
other doesn't get anything done.

It is how we "feel" deep inside that matters, cause each of us knows the
truth, regardless of how we try make it complicated. It just isn't.
