[RC] anerobic - larry Miller

One needs to do sprints, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, whatever.  But don't push it for long.  Back off, give the horse a chance to recover and then do it again.  About 4 sprints in a ride will do it.  I can get my horse's heart rate over 200 only when I run 1/2 mile hill, flat out.  Takes her anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 min to drop to the 120s.  LSD is very important before starting anerobic training.  Kerry Ridgeway sold an inexpensive manual in the 80s that gave a GREAT description of aerobic vs anerobic.  If one wants to be in front or close to the front, both have to be done.  Jeanie
