I've never purchased one, but from their ads the
charger senses the average resistance to ground (with modern electronics that
would take micro amps) and jolts 3 times when the resistance decreases, If
the resistance stays low it recalibrates to that resistance. The claimed
advantage is that a tangled horse will not be repeatedly shocked, and minor
shorts from plants are compensated for automatically.
