[RC] 'pointer' horses and scary tarps - A. Perez

Just the other day I was riding Idiot Boy, and my cell-phone
rang. We were riding along a trail we often ride, between a
road and a fence-line through a very horsey neighborhood. I
wasn't paying much attention, until suddenly Cy does a classic
'drop and spin': he's cool about most things except plastic
tarps, we had ridden right up next to a parked trailer that had
a tarp hanging off it, covering the opening above the top of the
tail gait: the wind was billowing the tarp out- definately a
horse-eating monster! Now this had been clearly visible for the
100 feet or so before we got to it, but I was too busy yacking
on the phone to notice it. Why Idiot Boy didn't notice it, or
react to it, until we were RIGHT up next to it, however, I have
no idea. Maybe he was listening in on my phone conversation
(which ended "DANG! I almost came of my horse! Better hang up
now"), or maybe he was just trying to get me to hang up and
ride!

The whole ride experience can be very hard, and at times you question why
you put yourself through such abuse. But then you remember all those
moments when you pop up over a hill and are suddenly surrounded by the most
stunning views. It's just you and your horse and for a moment time stops
and you can hear the angels sing. Therein lies the addiction, at least for
me.
