[RC] Drug testing - beth glover

I was surprised to see that people don't think drug testers show up often at races. In the last few years, EVERY time I have gone to a NATRC ride I have seen a drug tester, and my horses have been tested about four times.  One time at a vet stop mid ride. My horses have luckily always peed in a cup. Aha! that's why they aren't at AERC rides, they are at the NATRC rides! And what are they looking for anyway? I ponder. Especially at NATRC rides, yeah, when you win or lose if your horse screws up the obstacles...what drug will make my horse step over those metal barriers?    Anyone who'd use Bute, and then run like hell on a hot day like yesterday is just begging for trouble. Oh dang! Maybe they'd find a trace of Bigeloil from last week! No seriously, what the heck are they looking for? Hormones? Steroids?  Its a mystery to me. Its also a mystery why someone would use something that may cause their horse to over-rev, crash and burn.

Beth, (just my $.02)
