FW: Re: [RC] [RC] TWH Advice - Amber B Fort

My very first horse was half walker/mutt.  He did rack when asked, although not formally trained for it.  He did not trot with me for several years, however after we had been together for 5-6 years, I taught him to longe, wahhlaaa, he started to trott.  I was a kidd and was learning new stuff to, so taught him whatever I learned.

No one, told me you don't longe walking horses, so I did it.  Once, he learned there, he learned to do so under saddle.  However, he only did the trot when asked for, as he was built to do the running walk, he preferred that gait when we slowed down enough to do it.  I was kid and everwhere we went was at a gallop.  To the day he died, he only trotted when I asked him to do so.  We were a team for 13 years, wish I had known about endurance then!

We all know how hard it is to get a gaited horse in the correct gait, why force them into something that's not confirmationally correct for them! They were bred to running walk around plantations all day, I don't think it's hard on them endurance wise. What's hard on the TWH is the big lick!!! Laura "Not all who wander are lost."
