RE: [RC] [RC] Karen Chaton - update on Boa boots? - terry banisterHi,I don't know about Karen, but I have been using them, and they have not rubbed. Barbara was just theorizing because of their above-the-coronet design. I don't think she was saying that she had actually used them. Also, the gaitors are sold ($10 pr.) as added insurance against possible rubbing and to keep out excess debris. I have done five 6-13 mile rides in them so far, and with the exception of one falling off on the downhill of the 11th mile of our second use (just hadn't put them on tight enough initially, and it was very quick/easy to put back on) they are doing good. We've done some fetlock-deep puddles, mud, deep sand, hills, sustained trottng and cantering. No problem. When they say the Easy Boot is better for endurance, one reason might be that EZ boots pack better. The Boas are a bit bulky (and just slightly heavier than the Old Macs) because they don't collapse flat and don't fit into my cantle bag. Another point to consider is whether they are referring to endurance as in using the Boas on all four feet of a barefoot horse for the entirety of 100 miles, or do you mean using it as a spare in case your horse throws a shoe (and all scenarios in between)? So far, I personally have no qualms about using them for the last half of each 50-miler (I dont' want to deal with anything on his feet before the first vet check!)
