RE: [RC] conformation dogs/horses - ranch

"...determined not by size but by how the species
is built."

My understanding of the Sci Am article was that the size determined how the
species was built that is there are no big animals that bend their back because
in an animal the size of a horse bending would put more stress on the back than
it could stand without breaking.

The article also claimed that Elephants do not canter or trot because their
size and the resultant scaling bone of strength and muscle strength prohibits
that.

However one looks at the reasons, the fact is that dogs and horses run
differently precluding interspecies direct comparisons.
