[RC] More Maggie stories - Larry Miller

In the 70s I rode with Maggie and her daughter on competitive rides.  I usually saw her at the Skeggs 3 day 100.  Maggie sure knew how to present her horse and another Maggie secret.  Steady as she goes was how she traveled, up hill, down hill, thru mud, you name it steady was the word.  And Skeggs 3 day 100 was tough.  It was in and around a river valley, of course I forget the name, but we crawled up gullies, down gullies, thru awful mud, but when one got thru, one knew he/she had a hell of a trail horse.  I remember that I always sang, surprise surprise, I guess some things never change, and Maggie use to ask me if I got tired of singing!  I did get tired of her steady pace even on good moving ground, so I usually passed while singing!!  Of course, she and her daughter would catch me in the muddy spots where I slowed up but ol' steady pace Maggie just tooled on through!  And yes, she rode the horses that she bred!  LOL Jeanie
