[RC] Funding Necropsies - Kathy's eMail

Well I was just talking to my husband, who happens to be a vet, about the
discussion on necropsies of horse that die at rides and he, as vet thought
it was a great idea. Necropsies are one of the best educational tools we
have. What better way to truly discover why horses die at rides. If we
know why they are dying then we can better figure out how to keep them from
dying.
The idea of charging an extra dollar a ride to go to an AERC fund that pays
for the necropsy is fine by me. I am also more than willing to sign an
entry form that states if my horse dies at the ride I will let them perform
a necropsy. My husband did say that AERC should contact the major drug
companies to see if they would donate money for funding the necropsies.
These drug companies spend many thousands of dollars having vets come to
meeting where they educate them on different drugs that they sell. All of
us horse people spend how much buying drugs from all these companies for our
horses, so they could very well be willing to give back a little. After
all, the worse thing they can say is no.
Team Slow Poke,
Kathy
