Re: [RC] the ride (ok, it was "the warmup race") - Barbara McCrary

Imagine someone going out and picking up plastic bottles from 100 miles of
road!

well that was interesting - maybe?? not??. 3 of the 4 grey horses that we
watched all night finished the race. I hear I didn't see any more of any
other riders after the 3rd vet check. just those 4 horses and those 50
chase vehicles. You'd think with a helicopter you could pan the loops and
show the whole thing a bit.

I know there must have been more horses finish. There were more that
started. I guess you got to keep in mind that the REAL race is the world
cup in march - that's the one for which this was the primer - thats the
one
for which the first 2 loop front runner (Cesar Torras) was warming up for
(and why he rider optioned at the second vet check). I've no idea what
happened to the rest of the field. Though they had 8 hours to tell us -
they never did - only interviews with Potato for color.

Next time I'll plan to stay up longer (i faded at the end of the 4th loop
when they started in on more re-runs of the bio/pub pieces....Steph stayed
up for the whole thing - but she's still asleep:)

So, maybe it will happen in a better way (coverage wise) at the world cup.
It was fun watching it happen. We had that little postage stamp image
presented on the 20" monitor and if watched from about 10-15 feet away it
looked pretty good. Certainly was interesting to see the flat track guys
with their chase groupies. After a ride over there, the trail (or track
I'd guess you'd have to call it) is quite filled with empty and discarded
1
liter plastic water bottles - thousands and thousands of them...

(p.s. just guessing, but I'm thinking the 8th place finisher was not a
local....)
