[RC] Deaths, post mortem exam and disposal - Carolyn Burgess

You asked how much to dispose of an animal. My beloved mare Cassie died about 4 weeks ago, Cushing's finally consumed her and we had the same issue. We knew it was coming and I was not going to have her sent to a rendering plant, which until recently was the only option around here (around here is just outside of Boston, MA). We found a creamatorium that handled horses and we got pricing in advance. It was $1,700 to cremate her and $340 for them to come get her. So it cost me over $2,000. Money well spent. I can laugh about it now, but this mare only cost $900 to buy in 1995, and I spent over $200/month the last 3 years of her life in Cushing's meds and special food to keep her weight up. She was the best horse anyone could ever have and I was happy that I was able to provide this to her.
