Meant to send this to RC so we might get more ideas of how to make different
suggestions work. All suggestions are super but I need more help with the
answers! help please.

Hi Bob,
Are there some answers to some of those reasons? Who would pay? Would it
be done at the ride site (where?), would moving the horse contaminate the
evidence, what if the owner was opposed, which vet(s) would do it, ? I'd
like your ideas on how to address these issues as it might help me see the
advantage.
I'm not sure I believe any of this would be a deterrent only because I think
few of us ever see ourselves in the misdeeds and poor judgment of others. I
like the idea of a deterrent but I think in general people tend to be more
of the persuasion that "I would never do that or cause that to happen."
Thanks for your thoughts.
Margie

When I brought this subject up a while back it was soundly
rejected. Some of the reasons were the trauma to an already
upset owner, the inconvenience of doing it during an
endurance ride, the cost, who was to pay, the inconclusive
results often obtained and so on in finitum.

I still believe it a good idea and tremendous deterrent.

my husband and i sold a mare a few years ago, she just
recently had
surgery after strong treatment for colic did not stop her
symptoms -- a
fast trip to Alamo Pintado, exploratory surgery found a 5
lb fatty tumor
that had twisted the gut. no way to know about this. this
mare has done
some limited distance rides, suppose she had this happen at
a ride and
died as a result? many would be thinking that there was
mis-management on
the part of the rider, unprepared, whatever........there
may be other
horses that have died at rides as a result of pre-existing
conditions
where no one had a clue.

what about adding an autopsy to these deaths to rule out
this type of
situation?
