[RC] Alfalfa - Ron Lerma

I've talked to my vet about my mares diet and she seems to think it's just fine, but I am interested in more feedback. I am planning on doing my first ride soon and will be doing mostly LD rides and maybe a couple of 50's later in the year. My barn feeds mostly grass hay with approximately 20% alfalfa. I give accu-lyte elecrolytes and she has a mineral/ salt block to her access at all times.
My mare is 12yrs with no apparent health problems. The weather is always mild here. I ride two to three hours at a time three days a week and my mare is turned out twice a week for an hour each. Her vaccinations are current and I keep her on a regular de-worming schedule.
My vet thinks that I don't need any additional supplements including selenium, which she says is not deficient here in San Diego. She said I could add a corn oil or vegetable oil if I wanted but she still felt it was unneccessary at this stage of my riding. She did suggest the fat increase next year as I gear up for 100's.
Please feel free to send any comments. It's interseting to see all of the different opinions out there.
