O.K. I have *no intention* of even beginning to think I could give Julie
advice...but I have a question for those of you who live in areas where
there isn't a tree every 10 feet. This is one of those things I've
thought about while looking at the photos of the desert. Has anybody
ever been bizarre enough to consider an umbrella? I know what a huge
difference a little shade can make and I do believe that if I left out
with 10 miles to go, a tired horse and no shade I'd grab the golf
umbrella and a gallon of lemonade and go for a stroll! :-)

Angie (maybe a sombrero helmet cover anyone?)

I've been out on very hot and shadeless rides (admittedly, under low humidity conditions) and the biggest help to both me and the horse was to put a poll cooler on the horse and a wet cloth over my head and neck. The head is the major radiator of the body and if you can cool it all systems are happier.
