[RC] heat pacing - Steve Elliott (EQUINE PERFORMANCE)

< Barbaras reply to get back faster is better in high heat conditions
so we trot back faster then the horse stands at the trailer in the hot sun.

i disagree. you will use energy trotting and build up a small amount of
heat, heart rate is up also. you can walk all day and not have a problem
being a endurance runner if i ran at a slow pace (trot) it wouldnt be
wise, if i walked most the whole way no problem same goes with the
horses. ( yould you run in deep sand or rather walk?) yould be best to
limit your trot. you and your horse will not develop a sweat at a walk. now
at a trot they will then the radiator cooling effect kicks in the make up
the defference. if its too hot pull over and gett out of the heat, and
stop. just like competition if you cant handle it get out of the
competition. Heres another cut off times at Tevis, so youre running
behind like most riders that are new, what do they do go like hell from
the last vet check to meet cut off at the finish, now this is real good for
the horse??= problems at the finish When you do a ride like that the rider
pretty much doesnt care about life after the ride but just in that 24 hour
completion finish, its a one day and only day thing.( Tunnel Vision)
