Re: [RC] pulse - Heidi Smith

I was just wondering why there was an interest in
lowering the pulse criteria. (Maybe I missed some of
the discussion).

Is it to try and keep as many people from finishing as
quickly?

I have a 1/2 Mustang 1/2 Appendix QH that is very fit,
but her resting heart rate is between 42 - 48. So
there's not to much room between that and 56.

Please see my earlier post on the subject. NO, it isn't to keep people from
finishing quickly--it is to aid in ensuring health of the horses.

I know that it is the current "wisdom" to select for low resting rates, but
it has been my experience that many of the fastest-recovering horses that
I've ridden have not had particularly low resting rates.

If your horse is recovering properly, the rate should still plummet toward
resting, with 56 being reached only shortly after 60.

Heidi
