[RC] AERC stuff - Steph Teeter

Art, Jim, and others who have concerns about AERC business:

The AERC Board meets twice during the year - at convention, and at mid-year.
There is little or no business being conducted by the Board between these
meetings. If you have something you want the Board to address, you need to
get it on the agenda of the meetings. Through a committee, or via a
director. If you don't get your issue on the agenda, chances are it will
stay in the 'stuff to be concerned about' file. It's not that others don't
agree, or that the Board doesn't care. It is simply a function of the way
the organization conducts business. Even bringing things up at the general
session (such as Jim says he will do) doesn't necessary accomplish anything.
There are many Board members, a single question might get 25 different
answers. But a motion - a resolution - which is presented to the Board,
which is part of the agenda, will get discussed and will get voted on. It
will become part of the permanent record - the minutes of the corporation.
This is where stuff happens, and this is how AERC can track it's progress.

Find the appropriate committee, or a director willing to take your issue to
the meetings, and keep at it. It's great to talk about this stuff, and it
raises the level of awareness. And may convince some directors to vote one
way or another on an issue... but if it doesn't get to the meetings, doesn't
become part of the meeting agenda, it will most likely never get resolved.

Steph
