Re: [RC] mini donkey - Sunset Farm

Remember the junkyard dog, he killed all my goats, had a nice little herd, couldn't touch the mommas but very quickly the babies learned to come up and beg and that humans were good for scratching on. That is why I like my donkey, he is actually out with my broodmare band, hopefully the dog will respect his space and not mess with my foals. I agree with Adele----gotta love the SE, freezing one day and 60's the next, Lynn

On the subject of horse companions, I also recommend a goat. I was given a
sterile female goat about 5 years ago to keep my gelding company. After a few
days at his new home my gelding settled down and accepted the goat. She takes
no extra TLC and gets along great with my 5 horses. She grabs a few bites of
feed from the horses and has access to hay and pasture 24/7 and has never had
any problems. The only complaint I have is after 5 years of friendly contact
with humans she will not let me touch her. I can only figure that she had a
traumatic episode with humans before I got her. She could have escaped through
my fences from the very beginning and has chosen to stay with her horse
"family". To those that only have one horse and need companionship this is a
nice inexpensive alternative. Unless there is some hidden problem medically of
combining these two animals it is a great alternative. Are there any problems I
should be worried about? After 5 years and no problems I doubt I need to worry?
Should I?
Adele, Awesome, Calypso, Beau, Luke, Magic, and the goat ( perhaps she needs
a name by now-- any suggestions!!)
