I rode the 50 in 1994. Absolutely gorgeous ride. I was so wrapped up in taking photos along the way that I almost had trouble making the cut-off times!  Many parts of the 50 (back then it was point "A" to point "B" and your crew had to trailer you back), were forest trails that were hard and had lots of rocks. Some of it was macadam roads along the Shennandoah River. It is usually very hot and muggy that time of year. Tough trail, but do-able.
