[RC] When to call Animal Control - goearth

The headlines in the local paper (The Page News and Courier)states today (24 Dec)..."Animal cruelty crackdown in Page County"  and guess who the 2 being charged are?  The Animal Control Officers.  It seems they had a habit of shooting the dogs and cats at the pound and some locals want to see them get jail time.  There was a farm down the road from me that last year  had some horses in a 'dude string' operation and boarding there and in the winter the horses ribs were showing thru shaggy winter coats.  One day i saw a carcass waiting for  the renderer by the side of the road and i got to thinking something must be wrong there.  Then hearing from another source that this boarder was looking for her horse and couldn't find it she came back the next day and photographed enough carnage to have the hacker placed on animal cruelty charges.  His answer was he didn't want to cause her grief by telling her that her horse was dead...  When to call is a personal decision and maybe i should have called, but the animal activist that lives across the road i would have thought had a better perspective and she didn't call.  It finally came out and charges have been filed.  Here's a small PETA story about  someone i knew who is an activist.  She 'rescued' some monkeys that were in a testing somewhere and brought them to the country and put them down to save them from torture.  I don't know who to believe anymore.  PETA talks a mean talk and does things i find obnoxious and rather than finding answers they 'Put them down'. Another PETA person thinks i should put down a dog that is confined to a 14'x36' kennel during the day and inside at night, because it has no companionship.  Well this dog bit its previous owner, my friend who died of cancer and had her whole life/death covered except her dogs.  On her death bed i agreed to take the dogs and these were Doberman crosses with something like a hound dawg and so strong they have broken horse lead ropes.  The male i shot when he got loose and i found him with my 18 you catdawg Manx-Persian in his mouth and he growled at me and i had to shoot the cat also because it was so messed up.  That was very sad to me because i felt as vicious as the dog, and i loved that cat and he didn't have to go out that way. So, i'm faced with taking care of a dog that can be vicious to other animals and because, my friend is dead and i shot her other dog, i will not put this dog down as she is very loving to me, its just that she doesn't like other animals.  'Fuzz' Good the local animal control officer, just indicted, was bad for shooting all those dogs and cats and people want to see him in jail.  What, where or when is a personal call, but death is not the answer sometimes, and hindsight at times is just the rear end for an uncomfortable situation.  Hopefully those answers can be found rationally someday. But, personally, i think PETA needs to reevaluate their perspectives....and not act so holier than thou.  "The only successful revolution is thru evolution" tom sites
