Re: [RC] [AERC-Members] gunslinger - was Pot guards endanger land users - Howard Bramhall

I do believe, when you ride alone, guns might not be such a bad idea. I prefer to wear them openly as they did in the days of old. Alas, the days of new are with is and I'm sure some lawyer (please, no offense to lawyers in general) made this a thing of the past. A tradition, that now, especailly in the east, is taking a risk with the law if you wear it, and, taking a risk with friends like Truman has (the ones that grow pot illegally; they're not really Truman's friends, btw) if you don't.

It is illegal to carry weapons on certain types of public land - e.g., National Parks and State Parks in many states. Also some private land owners who allow endurance rides over thier land might not allow weapons to be carried on their land. So the importnat issue is most likely the land manager's rules rather than the AERC rules.

ok, I've gotta ask...are sidearms illegal during an
event? Or is it just certain sidearms? Perhaps
Sidearms that are conceallable are legal but one's you
can't conceal are illegal? What if I quit carrying my
sidearm a couple days before a ride, will people still
detect that I had carried a sidearm. Maybe it's just
the fact that since I had to ask about the legality
about carrying a sidearm during competition it implies
that it must be illegal. In the rider handbook it
says my horse should look like a gunslinger(really it
does)...should I look like a gunslinger too? Do
gunslingers look different in every region?

Tim - seriously considering a sidearm for a few of the
major redneck areas which events are held;)
