There goes Truman getting all legal and, well, the thing is, he's right.

I don't carry a gun to a ride. I've never gotten angry at one, been depressed on a couple, but, it's the safest place in the world as long as the horses behave. There are those amongst us who probably do have a gun or two in their camper somewhere. Somebody's got to shoot those snakes.

It is illegal to carry weapons on certain types of public land - e.g., National Parks and State Parks in many states. Also some private land owners who allow endurance rides over thier land might not allow weapons to be carried on their land. So the importnat issue is most likely the land manager's rules rather than the AERC rules.
