RE: [RC] [RC] Lee's Camp - Howard Bramhall

Now, Tom, don't you go badmouthing my "Cold Mountain." I met a fellow this summer who lives in Cruso, the town nearest the real Cold Mountain. He told me a few of the big shots who were involved in the filming of Cold Mountain met with him a couple of years ago, had him take them around, and it looked like they were really going to film it there. My new Cold Mountain friend told me he met Scorsezzi (I know I misspelled that) and had guys going around places looking through their fingers shaped like a square. My Cold Mountain buddy was only interested in meeting Nichole, which they did promise him. This is why he agreed to go riding around in this golf cart they had brought along to see the rugged Cold Mountain.

Well, turns out the real Cold Mountain wasn't bleak enough looking for the film makers (if you read the book this is kind of believable). So, they ended up filming in Romania, left my friend's dream of looking into Nichole's eyes first hand, broken, and, well, the movie will be out soon enough. I WILL BE FIRST IN LINE, and I never stand in line for anything.

If you haven't read the book, I highly suggest you do so now. Otherwise, that Hollywood ending might not be what's in the book (won't be the first time) and, you might be disappointed. If the movie does one tenth the justice of the book it will be a great movie. I have read that book seven times. It's the only book I have done that with. Over and over; just cannot get enough of Cold Mountain. I want to live and to die there in those very mountains, or very close. It's the only place to be.

cya,
Howard

Last year i posted on the fact we built the fire for the first time since his encampment during the winter of 1863-64 along with the Army of Northern Va. of 60,000 troops, and that Lee spent the winter in a tent when he could have had a fine home, but he wanted to stay with his troops, even after suffering a heart attack from what many said happened at Gettysburg. Yesterday we were supposed to go back, with some reenactors who are involved in all the Civil War movies and because of the weather we were unable because the creeks are rising. There is a tree in Orange Va., that is called Travelers Tree(a honey locust) that is in a sad state of health where Lee went to Church and tied Traveler and its importance is only meaningful to but the few. Lee was a special man and at another time in history he would have been the victor. But at this time in defeat he was a hero and a rallying call to reconciliation. The breed of Traveler can be debated and never proven. What can be is that a great man and a great horse met at the same time and we will always remember their bond. (As a side note...Cold Mountain which was filmed in Romania with Nicole Kidman is another CW epic that unfortunately had to go outside the USA for reasons of cost) tom sites
