[RC] A story on General Robert E. Lee's horse Traveler - rides2far

The thing I remember about the book "Traveler" was that he didn't like the
"Blue men" because they drew so many flies...(he saw lots of dead ones) This is
a common misconception in the South and I'll speak up right now and say the
Yankees I've met doing endurance don't seem to draw any more flies than the
average southern endurance rider.

Nice article on Robert E. How many people know he's the only student in the
history of West Point to graduate without ever having had a demerit? I think
he'd have made a great CT rider. By the way, his wife was Martha Washington's
grandaughter and inherited the plantation at Arlington. They lost it for
non-payment of taxes when Lincoln refused to let him mail the payment during
the war and demanded he bring it in person. That's when it became Arlington
National Cemetary. If I recall correctly, Lee had no slaves, and Grant didn't
free his till the war was over. What a strange world.
