RE: [RC] Fw: [RC] What makes you do this? - Laurie Durgin

the situation I witnessed on the endurance ride, they have also encountered the same problems. I think 100 miles might be okay, but do it over 2 days, and think more of the welfare of the horse. Riding after dark is not the safest for rider or horse either
***
Horses actually see quite well in the dark.My often going cantering around on a moonlit night for the sheer fun of it, dancing in the dark.

. There just seems to be a whole lot of things wrong with the entire senerio of endurance riding. And like I said, how fit are the riders anyway? Some couldn't run 100 yards, some couldn't even trot their horses at the vet, someone else did it for them.
***
Rather a blanket statement / opnion.
I used to run track and worked on trail crews, but I have metarsial problems (probably from running so much and carrying 4 children) that Running is pretty much out. I have to wear special shoe inserts, but I do walk a lot and could run ,it just hurts. Many people have some kind of disabliity that still makes them be able to ride their horse.
*****
And whats this about mammatory glands? Really, so what cup size should an endurance rider have? Are only flat chested women allowed to ride? HHHmmm ,I did have to find sports bras for 'high impact' sports or it really did hurt.
I don't know where you get this , all horses are lazy thing. Must have been around too many cold bloods. I spend most of my time holding one back, not ever urging him on. It's the ones in the rings that are bored silly repeating the same circles.(yes, we do those circles too, he told me, he is bored silly and wants to go out on the trail.)

Just my observations, if it makes you feel better, flame away. I am not closed minded, I just can't see this as being a fun sport to put your horse through.

Deb
*** You have your own perspective. But you don't seem to have given much chance to really 'see' ..........

Granted ,there are some who overdo anything. But just becasue a horse gets tired, it isn't a bad thing. You seem to think it is.---- I get tired working out, but is it good for me at 48? Is it 'bad" for me to lift 50 lb. feed sacks? Push 900 lb hay bales? Get on a horse and maybe get piled?Clean 4 stalls by myself. Heavens occasionally clean 10-15 stalls at a barn? Is it bad for me to weed -eat, split wood,, dig fence poles etc.?> Gosh,I am tired.< I should just sit in front of the TV and ,'diet' myself to death. People after all are lazy and 'don't want to work'. But then I wouldn't maybe have the strength and looks of someone 10 years younger and blood pressure of 105/62.
HHhhmmmm, must be unhealthy for those horses with 6-10,000 competetive miles, much less the training miles, maybe into the 100,000 especially those in thier teens and twentys that are still sound and want to 'go'.

Laurie , who may have too much cup size for this sport (now what size is allowed???? just B cups and under????
