[RC] re: mares vs. geldings - Cindy Collins

I'm one of those folks who SWORE they'd never ride a mare. I'd knew
several mares who were absolute terrors and they kicked other horses at
rides, etc. Then, Jackie Bumgardner let me ride Sierra Spunk and FM Fad
Serene in competition. Changed my prejudices totally. There are still
mares that I do not like and wouldn't have on my place and they are
moodier than geldings. Also, I do periodically have problems with them
kicking each other and my gelding when they are in heat. I think they are
more savvy and take better care of themselves, in general, on the trail.
My current competition horse is a mare, but my up and coming youngster is
a gelding. I wouldn't make a decision on an endurance horse based on
gender. Cindy
