Right.  I sould have been more clear in what I wrote. 

I guess I kind of lumped it all into one paragraph -
the rings and abcesses.

Also, I forgot to mention that my farrier told me
something that might help.  After the ride - try
soaking the horse's feet.  I haven't been able to try
this yet, but I plan on it.   I don't think it would
hurt.  Anyone tried it?

Yes, there is.  I was simply pointing out that this
problem goes beyond pain
tolerance.
