[RC] [Guest] Vosals- need advice please - Ridecamp Moderator

Tracy Cann EBBYPONY@xxxxxxx
I have a horse I have been riding for about a year in a Myler comfort snaffle and running martingale. He is very strong and is really starting to be a puller. I have put a Myler shanked bit on him and he had a heart attack. He reared and completely panicked. (I barely pulled on the reins, really) I bailed, walked him home and put the ring snaffle back on and went back out. He was fine. I think it was the leverage in his mouth that caused this. He came from a variety of abuse and is still very afraid of new things. With all that said I would love to go "bitless" with him. I was looking in "Running Bear" catalog and the decription for the Vosal caught my eye. The last line says "The horse that constantly pulls will stop!" I thought Vosals were very mild but I don't know much about them. Is there anyone out there who rides a strong horse with a Vosal? Any advice appreciated. In the same catalog is a "Sleister Hackamore" that "affords makimum control" according to the description. Would this serve me better if I want to go without a bit. Keep in mind I can control him with a mild snaffle and running martingale but when he starts pulling it gets tough. Thanks in advance for any help.

Tracy
