[RC] RE:trucks - Jonni Jewell

It would be good to hear a poll from SERA on what kind of truck you
drive, cost, mpg and towing capacity, and how many regions you compete in,
and miles traveled per year for competitions? as it affects everyone on this
list.ts<<<

Add to that how many years have you been towing. In most cases (and not
"all") I find that those of us who have been towing many years, would never
consider towing with a truck smaller than a 3/4 ton. We have been there,
done that, and made all the mistakes, and have learned from them. Often,
those who tow with a 1/2 ton (or smaller) have not been towing for a long
time, or very far. AND, the older 1/2 tons were tougher trucks it seems,
than some of those from the 80's and 90's. Maybe that is how some did well
with them.

My concern has always been the ability to not only pull, stop, but also keep
us secure on the road in strong winds. Wind hitting the side of your slab
sided horse trailer can really move and toss around a tow vehicle that does
not have the substance and wheel base to handle it. Those smaller Ford
Rangers and such just are not going to be safe (in my opinion) if you get
into some serious wind.
