[RC] re: [RC] [Guest] Too old / too green? - Trail Pal

I sat on a barn sour horse a few times during my teen years... Finally,
at 31 (gasp! get my cane! LOL) I seriously started lessons (trail and
arena). 2 years later I began riding CTR (competitive trail riding) -
25's and a 40. For me it was a great way to get started and get
confidence. I stalled out for a few years (moves, money etc) but am
staring over again with a new young horse at the ripe old age of 47.
Meanwhile, there's always crewing opportunities to learn from... I
"did" Tevis twice and Race of Champions - either as crew or a volunteer
timer/scribe.

It's lots of fun! try it you'll like it :-)

Talk about putting the cart before the horse: I have fallen head over
heels in love with Endurance riding, but I'm not even what you would
call an advanced beginner horseperson. I would love to be able to enter
a LD and just finish (one day), but worry that I am too old and too
inexperienced to attempt it in the future. I'm 28 (yes,I know that's
not really old) but I have no horse experience, besides three weeks at
a summer camp, don't own a horse, and am afraid of falling.

I've read where people have started riding later in life, but can you
take up a new activity like horseback riding and then build up to such
a strenuous sport like endurance riding in a few short years?
