Ah, yes.  That was the other part I forgot.  That is  a great training 
strategy.  At the ride and in training rides, work hard on slowing the 
horse and then telling it to speed up.  Over time the horse will give 
you more control over speed and be more comfortable with you 
controlling its speed, as long as you are "in the ballpark."  Walking 
among a bunch of galloping horses is not a reasonable request to a 
horse.
